Tambury, Harrison and Barshim… Who is Woo Sang-hyeok’s rival?

In the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September and the Paris Olympics next year, Woo Sang-hyeok’s rival is the Qatari high jump hero Mutaz Barshim (32). Woo Sang-hyeok won a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where he ranked fourth, and won silver medals at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics. Looking at his achievements so far, such as two consecutive Asian Games and three consecutive World Championships, there is no comparable player among active players. He surpassed his personal best record of 2m43 in 2014, and took first place at the Eugene World Championships last year by surpassing 2m37먹튀검증, which is 1 cm higher than Woo Sang-hyeok’s personal best.

Woo Sang-hyeok also has a special memory of Barsim. During the 2014 Incheon Asian Games when he was a junior, he first watched Barsim jump on the spot. Woo Sang-hyeok said, “It was like air. It seemed that only one Barsim was in another dimension,” he recalled at the time.

But now Woo Sang-hyeok and Barsim also compete on the same stage. In last year’s Doha Diamond League match, Woo Sang-hyeok defeated Barsim for the first time. Contrary to the original prospect, when Barsim announced that he would also participate in the Hangzhou Asian Games, Woo Sang-hyeok welcomed him, saying, “It will be more fun.”

In the Olympics, you have to deal with many more competitors besides Barshim. Italy’s Jean-Marco Tamberry (31) won the gold medal jointly with Barsim over 2m37 at the Tokyo Olympics. Harrison (24), the main American, is on the rise recently. On the 6th, at the Doha Diamond League, he surpassed 2m32 and beat Woo Sang-hyuk to take first place. He holds the season’s best of 2m33 along with Australia’s Joel Baden. Woo Sang-hyeok surpassed 2m32 at the KBS Cup National Track and Field Championships in Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 7th, and is next to them.

Woo Sang-hyeok said in an interview after the Yecheon competition, “I am very close with Harrison,” and “I was happy that Harrison’s skills improved from the second half of last year. He thought that Harrison, who also does long jump, would do better if he focused on high jump.”

Just like Woo Sang-hyeok did during the Tokyo Olympics, the possibility of an unexpected surprise appearance cannot be ruled out. In Tokyo, Woo Sang-hyeok jumped 2m35, 4cm higher than his personal best.

Woo Sang-hyeok said, “All the players in the Diamond League are rivals.”
