“Prioritizing baseball over family…40m throwable + original batting form” 1st team early comeback! Ahn Kwon-soo’s complex inner life
“My goal from the beginning was to return after a month and a half of rehabilitation. I’m really happy to be back in the first team.”
He returned to the first team a month earlier than planned. His recovery was quick, but there was also an urgent team situation.안전놀이터
Ahn Kwon-soo started the final game of the weekend series against the KIA Tigers at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju on April 30, batting second and playing left field.
After joining Lotte, Ahn emerged as a key player in the team’s offense in April, batting 3-for-1 with eight RBIs. However, after suffering from a bone chip in his elbow throughout May, he decided to have surgery, and on June 8, he underwent surgery to remove the bone chip.
At the time, the surgeon estimated that Ahn’s rehabilitation would take about three months. Lotte tried to speed up his return by sending him to the Iijima Osteopathic Center in Japan. Ahn made his first appearance in a practice game against Dong-A University on Sept. 26, and was promoted to the first team after recording five hits in the Futures Game against KIA’s second team on Sept. 28-29.
Ahn is said to have recovered, but he’s not quite there yet. The day before, LOTTE manager Larry Sutton said of Ahn’s throw, “He’s up to about 40 meters now. I hope it goes well on schedule and I hope to see him in the first team next week.”
Ahn Kwon-soo’s response was the same. “It’s a little difficult to throw home, but I can throw it accurately to the cut man. I practiced so that I could throw it faster to Cutman.”
On his YouTube channel, Ahn detailed his rehabilitation process, which included playing catch since the end of June and live batting during the All-Star break. “I was in constant communication with Dr. Iijima and my trainer. I had some pain and inflammation along the way, but as a result, I was able to return quickly,” he explained.
Hitting is different. In May, Ahn changed his batting form to help ease the pain in his elbow. But he says, “I’m hitting with my original batting form now. There’s no pain at all. It’s close to 100 percent,” he emphasized.
Coincidentally, the team sank without Ahn Kwon-soo. After being cut from the Hangzhou Asian Games team, Ahn has only this year left to play in the KBO, unless he chooses to serve in the military. That’s why he’s taking his return with a special sense of responsibility.
“I’m sorry, but I was in Japan and focused on baseball rather than seeing my family. I’m not greedy and want to help the team as much as I can. I’ll give it my all in the remaining 59 games.”
