‘Lost’ Bae Ji-hwan goes silent again, 0-for-22, 0.277→0.242, PIT 0-2 MIA

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Bae Ji-hwan’s silence is getting longer. Pittsburgh’s playoff chances are slipping away.

Bae started at first base against the Miami Marlins on April 26 at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, but went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He has gone hitless in his last 22 at-bats.

Bae’s most recent hit was an infield single in the seventh inning against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 18. Since then, he has gone 0-for-22 with a walk and two strikeouts in 24 at-bats.

If you count his first at-bat against the Chicago Cubs on April 22, he went 14 consecutive at-bats without a hit, meaning he batted 14 times and didn’t reach base once. The silence has dropped Bae’s batting average to .242 (50-for-207). His batting average, which at one point this month was as high as .277, seems to have lost its way.먹튀검증

Pittsburgh was held to a five-hit shutout and fell to 0-2. After going 1-3 in a four-game series against Miami, Pittsburgh has plummeted to 1-12 in its last 13 games. They had lost 10 straight games dating back to Dec. 23.

At 35-42, Pittsburgh is in fourth place in the NL Central and tied for the eighth wild card. They are six games behind the division-leading Cincinnati Reds and 8.5 games behind the third wild-card spot, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pittsburgh’s odds of making the playoffs, according to Fangraphs, have dropped even further to 3.0%. That number peaked at 34.4% on April 30 and was 25.1% on June 13.

Bae got off to a slow start in the first inning, striking out on a wild pitch. On a 2B2S pitch, he fouled off a 98.9-mph fastball on the fifth pitch from starter Eury Perez.

In the third inning, he led off with a walk and drove Perez’s 98.2-mph fastball well over the plate for a 98.4-mph fastball, but he was out in front of the left-field fence. Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, he struck out again with one out. He was fooled by Perez’s four-pitch changeup in the middle of the plate. With one out in the eighth, he grounded out to second base.

Miami scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the third on leadoff Jonathan Davis’ solo homer to left field, and put runners on second and third in the eighth on Yuli Gurriel’s infield single.

Pittsburgh starter Johan Oviedo took another loss after allowing one run on six hits in seven innings. He is now 3-8 with a 4.06 ERA on the season.

Miami starter Eury Perez has a 1.34 ERA in nine games since making his debut last month. AFP
Miami right-hander Eury Perez improved to 5-1 on the season with a dazzling six innings of four-hit, one-walk, nine-strikeout ball that touched 99.9 mph. Since making his debut on May 13, he has pitched 47 innings in nine games with a 1.34 ERA and 54 strikeouts.

Pittsburgh doesn’t seem to be letting go of its playoff hopes, even in this difficult situation. Earlier in the day, the Pirates acquired right-hander Andre Jackson from the Dodgers in a cash deal. Jackson was recently placed on the disabled list after going 0-2 with a save and a 6.62 ERA in seven appearances this season.

Miami’s Luis Arajuez, who is battling for a batting average, went 1-for-4, dropping his average from .401 to .399.
