LAA Minor OPS 1.374… ‘Monster Prospect’ Big League Debut
Jack Neto (22, Los Angeles Angels메이저놀이터), a “top prospect,” made his debut in the big leagues.
The Angels sent veteran infielder David Fletcher down to Triple-A in the Minor League ahead of an away game against the Boston Red Sox on the 16th (Korean time). It was Neto who was chosen as the card to fill Fletcher’s vacancy. Neto is an infield prospect who was nominated with the 13th overall in the first round of the 2022 rookie draft and signed with a contract of 3.5 million dollars (4.6 billion won). According to MLB.com, the official website of the Major League Baseball (MLB), Logan Ohoff (catcher) will compete for first and second place in the Angels prospect rankings.
Neto was quite surprised by the April call-up, saying, “Honestly, I thought it would be in September or right after the All-Star game, depending on the team situation.” He immediately started as the eighth hitter and shortstop against Boston, and recorded no hits and two strikeouts in four at-bats. Angels coach Phil Nevin said, “There will be growing pains and we understand that, but the most important thing is mental strength.”
Last year, Neto played in 37 games in the top-ranked single-A and double-A minor leagues with a batting average of 0.299, 5 home runs, and 27 RBIs. His Double-A performance this season was a batting average of 0.444 (12 hits in 27 at-bats) in 7 games, swinging a fire bat. The combined OPS of on-base percentage (0.559) and slugging percentage (0.815) reaches 1.374.
