The Lotte Giants defeated the LG Twins to avenge a big loss the day before.

Lotte came from behind to win 7-4 against LG at Sajik Stadium in Busan on April 9. Starter Dan Straily pitched just four innings, but the bats came alive early in the game to pull away, and the bullpen closed out the game to give the home fans the win. With the win, Lotte improved its record to 38-1 with a win-loss record of 37-37. LG, which won 12-3 at Lotte on Aug. 8, was unable to sustain its momentum as substitute starter Lee Jung-yong struggled with six runs in three innings and the bats failed to capitalize on tiebreaking opportunities in the fifth and sixth innings. LG took an early lead in the top of the first inning with leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki’s double to the left field fence and Moon Sung-joo’s RBI single to left-center. The team then loaded the bases with one out, but had to settle for one run as Park Dong-won fouled out to the catcher and Moon Bo-kyung was retired on a straight hit by the pitcher.

Lotte fought back. In the bottom of the first inning, Yoon Dong-hee singled and Jeon Jun-woo doubled to left center field, and Lee Jung-yong’s back-to-back wild pitches brought Yoon home, and Jeon Jun-woo, who had advanced to third, scored on Ahn Chi-hong’s single to left-center field to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the second inning, with runners on first and second, Hwang Sung-bin’s throwing error allowed Noh Jin-hyuk to score, and Kim Min-seok’s double to right-center and Jeon Jun-woo’s single to center scored one more run each to make it 5-1. In the bottom of the third, leadoff hitter Yoo Kang-nam hit a solo home run to left field off Lee Jung-yong to make it 6-1.

LG didn’t go down without a fight. In the top of the fourth inning, Park Hae-min, Shin Min-jae and Hong Chang-ki hit back-to-back singles. In the top of the fifth, Kim Hyun-soo’s single and Austin Dean’s walk chased Stratton off the mound, while Oh Ji-hwan’s RBI single off Lotte reliever Lee In-bok and an error by Lotte shortstop Noh Jin-hyuk when Park Dong-won was batting brought in two more runs. However, they failed to tie the game as Park Hae-min and Shin Min-jae each struck out. In the top of the sixth inning, they had a chance to tie the game with a double, a walk, and a hit batter, but Park Dong-won struck out.

Lotte had the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning against LG’s Hamdeok-ju with a walk to Son Sung-bin, a double to right field by Hwang Sung-bin and a single by Yoon Dong-hee. LG sent Jung Woo-young to the mound, but Lotte’s Jeon Jun-woo drove in a run with a drive into the dunes to make it 7-4.

Choi Joon-yong, who pitched a triple play in the seventh inning, worked a two-out rally in the eighth before sending set-up man Koo Seung-min to the mound to get the final out. In the ninth, closer Kim Won-joong pitched a scoreless inning to seal the three-run victory.
